The Most Sacred Mountain on Earth

Rising to 6,638 meters above sea level in the remote Kailas Range of Tibet, Mount Kailash stands alone — a perfect pyramid of ice and rock that has drawn pilgrims for thousands of years. Unlike any other great mountain, Kailash has never been climbed; it is too sacred. Instead, the faithful come to walk around it.

The sacred circumambulation — known as the Kora — is a 52-kilometer circuit around the mountain, traversing high mountain passes and ancient valleys. Every year, thousands of pilgrims from across Asia make this journey on foot, many prostrating the entire distance. It is one of the most profound acts of devotion on Earth.

Our journey begins in Kathmandu, Nepal — a city of ancient temples and living spiritual traditions — before traveling overland into Tibet. Full itinerary details will be announced soon. What we can promise: this will be a journey unlike anything else in our Sacred Earth Tours collection.

Sacred to Four Religions

Hinduism

Believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati — the axis of the universe.

Buddhism

Known as Kangri Rinpoche, considered the dwelling place of the Buddha Demchok, representing supreme bliss.

Bon

The soul of the Bon universe — the Sky Goddess Sipaimen is said to reside here.

Jainism

Called Ashtapada, where the first Jain Tirthankara attained liberation.

The Source of Rivers

Mount Kailash lies near the source of some of Asia's greatest rivers — the Brahmaputra, the Sutlej, and the Karnali — which flow outward in the four cardinal directions, nourishing the entire subcontinent.

Ancient cosmologies describe Kailash as Mount Meru — the axis of the universe, the center around which all existence revolves. To stand in its presence is to feel that truth not as metaphor, but as direct experience.

The Kora (circumambulation) spans 52 kilometers and crosses the Dolma La pass at 5,630 meters — a physically demanding and spiritually transformative experience that pilgrims describe as life-changing.
