Along the way, keep watch for the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal, which may grace your journey with its presence. Continuing on, arrive at Dechen Phodrang to witness the captivating sight of monks in procession between the state monastic school and the dzong. For a unique cultural experience, venture to Simply Bhutan, a living museum and photo studio celebrating Bhutanese tradition and diversity.

Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha
On the third day of our journey, we’ll venture to Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital until 1955. Our route will take us through the breathtaking Dochula Pass, renowned for the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and its stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas.
During our excursion, we’ll visit the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang temple, a tribute to 100 years of monarchy and His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the fourth king, known for leading the operation that quelled Indian rebels.
Next, we’ll explore Punakha Dzong, an architectural marvel and the administrative hub of the region, nestled at the confluence of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. Finally, we’ll stroll across the Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge, Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge, offering captivating vistas of the valley and Punakha Dzong.
Day 5: Punakha to Paro
Nestled in the picturesque Paro Valley lies a treasure trove of ancient monasteries and temples, alongside Bhutan’s sole airport. Among these historical gems is the seventh-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples and part of the 108 temples commissioned by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Adjacent to the temple stands a converted house, now transformed into a museum honoring the revered Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, showcasing his photographs and personal artifacts.
Dumtse Lhakhang, erected in 1433 by the legendary iron bridge builder Thangton Gyalpo, holds a fascinating legend. According to lore, it was constructed to quell a malevolent demoness and is securely chained to the earth. Symbolizing the realms of hell, earth, and heaven across its three floors, Dumtse Lhakhang demands a special permit for entry, offering a glimpse into Bhutan’s rich spiritual heritage.
Day 6: Hike to Tiger's Nest
Prepare for an unforgettable adventure as we embark on a hike to one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks – Tiger’s Nest, also known as Taktsang Monastery.
Perched dramatically on the cliffside of Paro Valley, Taktsang Monastery is a revered Himalayan Buddhist site steeped in legend. According to ancient tales, Guru Rinpoche, the Precious Master, soared to this sacred spot from Tibet on the back of a tigress and engaged in profound meditation within its caverns. The monastery stands as a testament to both spiritual devotion and architectural splendor, drawing visitors seeking both a physical and spiritual challenge.
The ascent to Tiger’s Nest spans over two thousand feet from the valley floor, promising a journey filled with awe-inspiring vistas and a sense of profound spiritual fulfillment. Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking beauty and spiritual resonance of this revered pilgrimage site.
